GENERAL NOTES about CARE and
MAINTENANCE and TIMBER PERFORMANCE
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Baltic Pine Timber
The timber used is high grade Baltic Pine (Pinus Sylvestris)
which is pressure impregnated during manufacture to protect
the wood from rot or decay over a long period of up to
twenty years. The timber is certified under PEFC
(BMT-PEFC-0020) or FSC (TT-COC-003092) certification
schemes. As the wood is slow grown in a harsh climatic
area compared to the UK or other temperate zones the result
produces a dense and easily machinable timber. The
factory treatment complies with EU regulations and
requirements under BS EN599 using either Tanalith E or
Wolmanite CX containing copper and organic azoles which
become fixed on impregnation giving long term protection to
the timber.
Timber Maintenance
We recommend that the products are left outside all year
round as natural moistures which are drawn out of the wood
in summer are then replaced in the wetter winter months.
The products timber requires some
ongoing treatment to maintain the protection and longevity
of the wood and this is recommended every two years.
This can be done more regularly if preferred or if the
furniture is in a coastal or exposed position. Pepe
Wood Oil has been developed for this specific purpose and is
a colourless water born wood oil emulsion based on vegetable
oils (not solvents). It is designed to protect the
wood and repel moisture and reduce the appearance of the
natural shake cracks that may appear in the wood.
Application is easy by brush or sponge and the wood oil
comes with full instructions. Autumn is a good time to
carry this work out whilst the timber is dry after summer
time and will easily absorb the wood oil.
The 0.9 litre tin covers 5-7m2 which is
sufficient
for either size of swing, rocking chairs or sunbeds. The 2.7 litre tin
covers 17-23m2 which is sufficient for either a 4 or 6
person table setting. The product can be sent by post, carrier or
delivered with other
items. Table Tops
are subject to more overhead direct sunlight than any other
pieces in the range. This may produce more stresses to the
timber structure especially in changing climatic conditions
than will occur in other products. We
have therefore considered that in the best interest of long
term care of the table tops they will benefit from a
treatment when first unpacked and exposed to exterior
conditions after spending several months in consistent cool
dry conditions following manufacture. We
are supplying a 0.9ltr Pepe Wood Oil free of charge with
every table and chair set sold for the above purpose
irrespective of whether the purchaser has brought their own
maintenance pack. We strongly recommend
that the wood oil is liberally applied to the table top when
first assembled and placed outside. |
